The spirit of Antigua and Barbuda was on full display this weekend in the Hamptons for the second annual Antigua and Barbuda Hamptons Challenge.
The event, which sought to promote Antigua’s Sailng Regatta to the tony enclave in Long Island, brought together 38 yachts and their crews in the waters off of Sag Harbor.
It included the creation of an “Antigua and Barbuda Village” on the beach, and local cocktails including English Harbour Rum.
Brothers Mike and Lou Grignon won with their boat, “Street Fighter,” taking home the grand prize: an all-expenses-paid trip to Antigua for the 2014 Sailing Week activities.
“The success of the first and now second Antigua and Barbuda Hamptons Challenge is testimony that Antiguans and Barbuda and East Enders alike have a passion for sailing that is undeniable,” said Tourism Minister John Maginley. “It is this very connection that makes the Hamptons a perfect market for promoting the destination and Sailing Week on a whole. This is certainly a win- win partnership for both.”
The Hamptons Challenge is coordinated by sailor and Hamptonite Rob Roden.
