The 11th edition of the CARIFESTA regional cultural festival is officially underway in Suriname.
It is the first time the Caribbean Festival of Arts and Culture has been held since 2008, when it was staged in Guyana.
This year’s festival sees contributions from more than 30 countries, with events including a Grand Cultural Market, a Film Festival and a Youth Village and cultural performances of everything from chinese lion dancing to Javanese Tarbangan dance.
While the festival is concentrated in the capital, Paramaribo, CARIFESTA is actually spread across 10 districts and 12 locations in Suriname.
CARIFESTA concludes on Aug. 25.
