Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou arrived in Basseterre Sunday morning for an official visit to St Kitts and Nevis.
Ma’s trip is part of a wider regional tour that has already included stops to Caribbean countries including Haiti, St Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines.
His visit includes a visit to the Taiwan-funded Agro-Tourism Demonstration Farm, a tour of the Brimstone Hill UNESCO World Heritage Site and the signing of a Joint Communique.
St Kitts and Nevis has been among Taiwan’s strongest ally in the region, and recent years have seen bilateral cooperation on a number of projects, particularly in the field of solar energy.
St Kitts recently hosted a trade expo from Taiwan and is readying a solar farm at Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw International Airport being funded by Taiwan.
The hemispheric, which began Aug. 11, will conclude Aug. 22.
