It was a record-setting Sunday for Jamaica’s female sprinters.
Gold medalist Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who had already swept the 100M and 200M in Moscow, anchored Jamaica’s women to the second-fastest 4x100M relay of all time, with a spirited showing of 41.29 that set a new national record.
That was far ahead of the United States, which finished in 42.75 seconds, and Great Britain, which finished in 42.87.
This wasn’t the same group that took home gold in the women’s 4×100 in London last summer — due to the recent drug-related suspensions of both Veronica Campbell-Brown and Sherone Simpson. But itt was just as strong, led by Carrie Russell, Kerron Stewart (who also took silver in London), Schillonie Calvert and Fraser-Pryce.
The United States had won the previous 4×100 at the World Championships in September 2011.
The US set the world record in London with a time of 40.82 seconds.
