St Lucia’s government is “fully committed” to the redevelopment of Port Castries, according to Deputy Prime Minister Phillip Pierre.
The plan is to transform Port Castries into a “modern shopping plaza for cruise passengers, visitors and locals.”
St Lucia recently held talks with cruise giant Royal Caribbean, which could be considering a partner on the project, according to a government statement.
The government said it had instructed the Saint Lucia Air & Sea Ports Authority to provide a timeline to Royal Caribbean to finalize discussions with the reported partner and to “proceed with discussions with other potential partners if that deadline is not forthcoming.”
St Lucia said it would “only endorse a reputable partner” on the project.
