After a nearly two-decade-long search, Montserrat has decided upon a national song.

The song, “Motherland,” was written by Sir Howard Fergus and Dr George Irish. It was chosen after a voting process that involved members of the Diaspora and the local community.

The government said the song “displayed elements of Montserrat’s culture making reference to masques and drums.”

Justin Cassell, chairman of the National Song Search Committee, said the song was “relevant and most importantly will stand the test of time.”
