Haiti’s government and the International Health Group have signed a $41.48 million contract to rebuild the Hospital of the State University of Haiti.
The $41.48 million in funding is part of a larger $83.2 million project to rebuild the hospital, following an agreement signed in 2010 between the US and French governments.
The Agence Francaise de Developpement has committed $25 million for the project, while USAID has committed $25 million.
The US government and Haiti have agreed on another $33.2 million in funding.
Work began on the overhaul in early 2012, with an international tender released later that year.
The hospital suffered serious damage in the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. This project would add 534 new patient beds as part of 20,000 square metres of new buildings.
The project is set for completion in 2016.
Earlier this year, the country inaugurated a new maternity ward at the hospital.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance’s Technical Implementation Unit will be overseeing the project.
