The World Bank has named a new special envoy to Haiti to focus in the area of “inclusive growth.”

Mary Barton-Dock was officially named the second World Bank Special Envoy to Haiti earlier this month, replacing Alexandre Abrantes, who had served in the post for the last three years.

Barton-Dock has already traveled to Haiti’s North, Artibonite and Centre departments, visiting “current and potential programmes supported by the World Bank Group,” according to a statement.

Barton-Dock has previously served in countries including Cameroon, Chad, Gabon, Sao Tome and Principe and Equatorial Guinea.

“Achieving shared prosperity is a shared responsibility and I am looking forward to work with the Haitian Government and all stakeholders to help address and overcome the development challenges the country is facing,” she said. “I am eager to learn more about the country and lead an assistance program that is tailored to its needs and priorities.”

Barton-Dock joined the World Bank in 1993.
