A new Marriott hotel will break ground in Kingston later this week, according to Jamaica Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller.

The property will involve an investment of about $17.4 million. It’s one of several new hotels on the way in Jamaica, including the Riu Palace Hotel in Montego Bay.

Earlier this month, Jamaican Tourism Minister Dr Wykeham McNeill said the project would employ around 430 Jamaicans overall.

It is being developed by local company Jamaica Properties.

Courtyard By Marriott locations in the Caribbean include hotels in Barbados, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.
