Five Caribbean Cities For Great Shopping

We like the beach, the culture, the food. But sometimes going to the Caribbean is really just an excuse to go shopping. And whether you’re stopping in port or on a long vacation, you’ll find everything you want to buy at these five Caribbean destinations. Where is your go-to shopping destination? Tell us in the comments section.

Oranjestad, Aruba

One of the region’s duty-free shopping capitals, Downtown Oranjestad’s shopping iis a mix of local and European sensibilities — and you’ll even find top shopping in many of the hotels, like the Renaissance Aruba’s very own mall. (above).

Old San Juan, Puerto Rico

Whether you’re looking for high-end fashion or kitschy tourist gear, Old San Juan has it all — focused on Calle Fortaleza, which is one of the most diverse shopping streets in the region. You’ll find it all here — freshly rolled cigars, custom Panama hats

Nassau, Bahamas

One of the most popular cruise ports in the region, Nassau has one of the region’s best selections of duty-free shopping — particularly jewelry. But the real star is the recently rebuilt Straw Market — a shopping experience you won’t want to miss.

Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis

St Kitts’ capital may be tiny, but it packs a shopping punch. And it’s all centered around Port Zante, a pleasantly large shopping area right off the cruise pier. And if you venture out into the heart of downtown Basseterre, you won’t be disappointed.

Charlotte Amalie, St Thomas

Charlotte Amalie in the US Virgin Islands is another island that has an exciting mix of duty-free goods and locally-made crafts, with literally hundreds of shops along the city’s Main Street — and nearly 50 jewelry stores in Charlotte Amalie alone. And don’t forget a visit to the Havensight Mall.
