Nassau is known for a lot of things, but it also happens to be home to a number of tremendous restaurants. Whether you’re looking for authentic Bahamian specialties or top-notch food from around the world, you’ll find it in the Bahamian capital. Here’s our list of five places you need to check out for a bite in town, from seaside conch shacks to fine-dining destinations. What’s your favourite place to eat in Nassau? Tell us in the comments section.
Potters Cay Dock
Just underneath the bridge from Nassau to Paradise Island, this is the heart of Nassau’s conch industry. And it’s all about the freshest conch here. There are a host of conch-centric shacks on the dock, although we particularly like Daphney’s At the Dock. Try the cracked conch.
Cafe Matisse
Tucked in the heart of historic downtown Nassau, Cafe Matisse specializes in Italian cuisine. If the weather’s nice (which it usually is in Nassau), try dining in the garden courtyard.
Graycliff
This is the seat of government of Nassau’s culinary industry. Graycliff, which was the first five-star restaurant in the Caribbean, is a Caribbean institution, and it’s expanded over the years to include separate restaurants featuring traditional Neapolitan pizza and a Brazilian churrascaria. Don’t miss it.
The Poop Deck
Located on East Bay Street, the Poop Deck has been around for more than four decades (including an expansion to the Sandy Point area), and the fresh seafood remains among the best on the island of New Providence.
Formerly known as “Travellers Rest,” this eatery has always been a little bit of a secret. Just a few minutes away from Lynden Pindling International Airport, it’s perched just above a beautiful, quiet beach and specializes in simple, traditional Bahamian cooking.
Luciano’s of Chicago
Yes – there are two Italian restaurants on this list. But Luciano’s is Italian with a Bahamian accent. But a trip to Nassau wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Luciano’s. The food is excellent and the view of Paradise Island and Atlantis on the outdoor plaza is simply breathtaking.
