Suriname has six weeks until its hosts the long-awaited return of the CARIFESTA regional arts festival.

Last week, Suriname officially signed its host country agreement for the festival, which sets out the legal and operational framework for CARIFESTA’s management.

This year’s festival, which will be held in Suriname from Aug. 16 to Aug. 25, will carry the theme “Culture for Development: Celebrating our Diversity and Promoting the Central Role of Culture in Economic, Social and Economic Development.”

It will be the 11th edition of the event, which will showcase cultural expressions from more than 30 countries and territories in the Caribbean.

CARIFESTA was last held in Guyana in 2008.
