Despite outshooting Honduras, Haiti lost its Gold Cup opener on Monday, 2-0.

Haiti had 17 shots to just six by Honduras, along with 10 corner kicks to just one by Honduras, but it wasn’t enough for Les Grenadiers following two strong showings in international friendlies.

Honduras’ Rony Martinez started things off for Honduras in the fourth minute of play, sending one from the right of the box, and Marvin Chavez finished things with a lefty shot in the 78th minute.

Possession was split down the middle between the two teams, while each team picked up 10 fouls.

Haiti’s Wilde-Donald Guerrier and Aveska Judelin took yellow cards, as did Honduras’ Brayan Beckeles.

Haiti’s next game comes on Friday against Trinidad and Tobago.
