Rum Journal: Traveling to Puerto Rico With Caliche Rum

PUERTO RICO is known for two very famous white rums: Bacardi and Don Q Cristal.

Last year, though, a new white rum emerged on the scene from Ponce-based Destileria Serralles, which makes Don Q, called Caliche.

What’s unique about Caliche is that, unlike most white rums, it’s aged. The rum actually uses the solera blending system, blending four different aged rums and then using charcoal filtering.

It adds up to a very serious white rum, perfect for cocktails of all shapes and sizes, like Caliche’s Cali Coco.

The crystal-clear cocktail is heavy on coconut, but it’ll bring the paradise of Puerto Rico right to your home bar.

Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients

•2 oz Caliche Rum
•1 oz Don Q Coco Rum
•1 oz Coconut Water
•(Vita Coco and Zico work best)
•¼ oz Agave Nectar
•Garnish: Dry Coconut Flakes

Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a shaker filled with ice and shake until chilled. Strain into an ice filled rocks glass. Add garnish.
Enjoy.
