American Airlines and Seaborne Airlines have embarked on a codeshare agreement, the two companies announced Monday.

The agreement will apply to six destinations in the Caribbean out of San Juan, including Dominica, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Tortola, Vieques and Virgin Gorda.

Two of those destinations are now served weekly by direct service on American from Miami.

In an interview with Caribbean Journal in April, Seaborne CEO Omer ErSelcuk said the Martinique and Guadeloupe codeshares could help travelers who may not desire to stay in a destination for an entire week.

“American is committed to providing our customers with easy and convenient access to destinations around the globe,” said Kurt Stache, American’s Vice President – Strategic Alliances. “This new codeshare relationship with Seaborne affirms that commitment by expanding our global network to include more travel options to the Caribbean.”

Seaborne is one of several airlines to step up their flight service in the wake of the departure of American Eagle from the region.

“This agreement is indicative of the quality of our people and our airline,” said Gary Foss, President of Seaborne, in a release. “We couldn’t be more delighted to be launching a codeshare agreement with American Airlines and look forward to serving its needs in the region for years to come.”
