Trinidad Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar hosted Serge Letchimy, the president of Martinique’s Regional Council, for talks in Port of Spain on Thursday.

The two sides discussed issues including energy, transport, exchange programmes, security and tourism, according to a Trinidad government statement.

Trinidad said Martinique is interested in renewable energy and the proposed Caribbean Gas Line, along with improved air and maritime transport in the Caribbean.

Letchimy, who was in Port of Spain with a delegation of officials from Martinique, said Martinique would consider offering professional tourism training packages to young people in Trinidad.

In a statement, Persad-Bissessar said she thanked Letchimy for the visit and “promised greater cooperation and collaboration” between Trinidad and Martinique.
