St Vincent and the Grenadines and the Caribbean Development Bank are launching a $4.7 million project aimed at alleviating poverty, Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves announced.

The Seventh Basic Needs Trust Fund Programme, called BNTF-7. will be launched at the Sunset Shores Hotel on June 11.

The programme is the CDB’s flagship poverty reduction programme across the region. It has been operating in St Vincent and the Grenadines since 1979.

Projects that have been implemented under the programme include the provision of social and economic infrastructure like roads and school repairs, along with skills training.

Of the $4.7 million total, about $3.9 million will be spent on “various community driven projects in education and human resource development, access and drains, and water and sanitation,” St Vincent’s government said.
