Haung Xing Yuan, the newly-installed Chinese Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, held talks on Friday with Trinidad Trade Minister Vasant Bharath.

It was the first of what will be a series of courtesy calls with Trinidad Cabinet Ministers.

The meeting sought to bring into focus the recent visit to Trinidad by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Huang said he had an “ambitious plan” to improve bilateral trade relations between the two countries, calling Trinidad and Tobago “the most attractive economy in the Caribbean region,” according to a Trinidad government statement.

Bharath said the government was interested in receiving China’s help on specific projects, including the maritime sector.
