Caribbean Journal Wins Caribbean Tourism Organization Media Award

Caribbean Journal won the award for best online feature at Thursday’s Caribbean Tourism Organization media awards in New York.

CJ’s Alexander Britell took home the honour for his article, “Sea Turtles — A Special Kind of Tourist at the Four Seasons Nevis,” which examined efforts to protect and study the critically endangered creatures in Nevis.

CJ Travel Editor Sarah Graves-Gabbadon also received a pair of awards for pieces written for other publications last year, including Best of the Best for a feature on Trinidad’s carnival.

There were 90 entries in total for the awarrds, which honour the best in Caribbean travel journalism.

The entries were judged by a team of public relations and journalism experts, led by Head Judge Ellen Tashie Frisin.

Other winners included Gay Nagle Myers of Travel Weekly for a story on St Kitts, Grenada Broadcasting Network’s Rickisha St Louis for a piece on St Eustatius and Patti Nickell of the Lexington Herald-Leader for a story on Dominica.

Art Fennell won an award for a video feature on Martinique, while Phoenix International’s Katsuyoshi Tanaka took home an award for a piece on Martinique as well.
