Trinidad to Open Embassy in Beijing

Trinidad and Tobago will be opening an Embassy in Beijing in November, Trinidad Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and China President Xi Jinping this weekend.

The news revealed during a visit by Xi to Trinidad, the first every by a Chinese head of state to the Caribbean.

Trinidad is also considering establishing a Trinidad and Tobago Cultural Institute in Beijing, Persad-Bissessar said, attached to the diplomatic mission in Beijing.

“This centre would promote Trinidad and Tobago’s creative industries through cultural exchanges, training seminars and cultural exhibitions in China,” she said. “The Centre could also feature highly in Trinidad and Tobago’s public diplomacy initiatives in Asia.”

The two countries are also considering creating an annual Caribbean Music Festival in Beijing each summer.
