Germany and CARICOM will be cooperating on the issue of climate change for the foreseeable future.

Climate change, green energy and natural resources management and biodiversity will be the focus of Germany’s assistance to the Caribbean Community through 2018, according to Ullrich Kinne, deputy head of mission for the German Embassy in Trinidad and Tobago.

Germany has provided more than $78 million in support through the CARICOM-Germany cooperation programme over the last three years.

Some of that money has funded projects in areas like HIV/AIDS prevention, renewable energy and climate change.

The visiting German delegation said the CARICOM Secretariat was Germany’s “major development partner in the Caribbean” for planning and coordinating regional projects.
