Montserrat is now soliciting expressions of interest for a proposed Submarine Fiber Optic Cable Project.

The project would reinstall a cable which was lost after the devastating volcanic eruptions on the island in 1995.

The government said feasibility consultations have already been included.

“The government believes that having the submarine fibre optic cable will improve the island’s capacity to attract technology-driven companies and to also deliver more services efficiently and cost-effectively,” it said in a statement.

Montserrat is currently considering five different project business models for the development and implementation of the project.

The government said it intends “to identify and facilitate the model that will be most effective in bringing the greatest benefits to Montserratians.”
