The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, recently held talks with Antigua Prime Minister Dr Baldwin Spencer on the proposed Azure Bay Property Development project.

The development would represent the “largest high-end hospitality development opportunity in Antigua and Barbuda,” according to a government statement.

Spencer recently visited Qatar, holding talks with Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabr Al Thani, Minister of Business and Trade, Jassim Bin Abdelaziz Bin Jassim Al-Thani and Chief Executive Officer of the Qatar Development Bank, Mansoor Bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud.

It would include a five-star hotel, condominiums, an 18-hold golf course, a wellness clinic and spa and a deep water heliport, casino and retail component.

The two countries have agreed in principle on a cooperation agreement “designed to enhance the relationship between the two countries,” according to a statement.

If realized, it would be the latest Gulf-based venture in the Caribbean.
