Cuba will be holding a Haitian Cultural Week in Havana beginning next week, Cuba’s government announced.

The seven-day event will focus on a “large sample of artistic work and traditions” from Haiti.

According to Jean Victor Geneus, Haiti’s Ambassador to Cuba, the week will be “an opportunity to showcase the rich cultural heritage” of Haiti.

He also said the event was part of regional integration efforts urged by the Community of Latin American States.

The week-long celebration will include photography and painting exhibitions and lectures on contemporary art and the Creole language.

The exhibition will be housed in the Casa del Alba Cultural in El Vedado.

Haiti has been looking to export its culture through diplomacy in recent years, most notably the Haitian Embassy in Mexico City.

Haiti Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe visited Cuba last week.
