Grenada has formalized diplomatic relations with Kuwait, the government announced this week.

Grenada Foreign Minister Nickolas Steele and Mansour Ayyad Al-Otaibi, Kuwait’s permanent representative to the United Nations, recently signed a “Jointed Communique” to establish ties.

Grenada had already been receiving financial support through the Kuwait Fund.

Initially, Kuwait’s Ambassador to Venezuela will be accredited to Grenada, while Grenada’s High Commissioner to London will be accredited to Kuwait as well.

The two sides discussed opening a Grenada diplomatic office in Kuwait.

Steele was accompanied by Marguerite St. John-Sebastian, Counsellor/Charge d’Affaires of the Permanent Mission of Grenada to the United Nations.
Kuwait has been stepping up its cooperation with other Caribbean nations, including Haiti and St Kitts and Nevis.
