Grenada Tourism Minister Alexandra Otway-Noel met with members of the country’s Diaspora community in the United Kingdom during a visit this week.

Otway-Noel, who was appointed by Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell in March, was joined at the meeting in London by Grenada’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Elizabeth Rouse.

The Minister discussed the government’s plans for tourism going forward and what she called the “serious impediment” of the British Air Passenger Duty on travel to Grenada.

In a statement, Otway vowed to “continue championing this cause with her Caribbean colleagues and to help minimize this difficulty.”

The APD, a tax imposed on flights originating in the United Kingdom, has led to significant opposition in the Caribbean, although thus far diplomatic efforts have been unsuccessful, leading to some to call for a new approach.
