Trinidad Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar hosted Grenada Prime Minister Keith Mitchell for talks on Thursday in Port of Spain.

The visit marked Mitchell’s first overseas visit since taking office in February in a landslide victory by his New National Party.

Trinidad is Grenada’s largest trading partner, representing approximately 36 percent of merchandise trade and 49 percent of banking services.

The two sides agreed that representatives from both countries’ Ministries of Energy would meet to finalize an agreement on joint oil exploration in the maritime area between the two countries.

The talks covered a range of other issues, including investment, agriculture, transport and national security.

On the latter, Persad-Bissessar and Mitchell discussed the operations of the Advanced Coastal Surveillance Radar System, which is used for maritime surveillance in the waters between Trinidad and Grenada.
