Cuban leader Raul Castro met Thursday with Yoshiro Mori, the former Prime Minister of Japan, who is currently on a working visit to the country.

During what Cuba’s government said was a “cordial” meeting, the two sides reportedly discussed ways to expand trade and to increase bilateral cooperation, specifically in the sports field.

Mori is currently the vice chairman of the executive council for Tokyo’s bid for the 2020 Olympic Games.

Castro and Mori were joined by Hiroshi Sato, Japan’s Ambassador to Cuba, and Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla.

Mori served as Prime Minister of Japan from 2000 to 2001.
