Grenada officially swore in the country’s first-ever female Governor General, Dr Cecile La Grenade, Tuesday morning.

La Grenade succeeds former Governor General Sir Carlyle Glean, who had served in the post since 2008 and completed his last day on Friday.

Grenada Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell, whose New National Party swept all 15 seats in Parliament in the country’s February elections, congratulated La Grenade on her appointment.

La Grenade is a longtime businesswoman who received the OBE from Queen Elizabeth II for her work in managing food processing company De La Grenade Industries.

Her appointment was first announced last month.
