Information and Communication Technology will form a “major platform for growth” in Grenada, according to Information Minister Senator Winston Garraway.

Continuing a Caribbean-wide push for more ICT integration, Grenada will set up several new technology-related projects going forward, including a revamp of the country’s Centre for Excellence and Innovation, E-taxation Services and the establishment of the Caribbean Regional Communications Infrastructure Programme.

Following another regional strategy, Grenada will begin a tablet distribution initiative for the country’s students, Garraway said.

Similar programmes have been implemented in Caribbean countries, with Jamaica the latest to announce plans to do so.

“We will ensure that every classroom is ready for the integration of ICT in schools,” he said. “We will encourage software development and it will be taught in schools as a core subject.”
