Barbados is an “important partner” for Israel, according to Israeli Ambassador Amiram Magid.

The Israeli envoy, who was recently on a visit to the island, met with Minister of Education, Science Technology and Innovation Ronald Jones.

Magid said Barbadians stood to benefit from opportunities to pursue training in Israel, with a focus on courses in health, education and citizen security.

He said he would also work to get more Barbadians enrolled in programmes enrolled in entrepreneurship, and that Israel could itself bring experts to Barbados.

“We have always had pretty good relationships over those many years and we have generally responded to any requests from the Israelis for support, in whatever area, once it fell within the confines of our own views and beliefs,” Jones said.

Another area of potential collaboration is agriculture, particularly at the enhanced training facility currently being developed at the Barbados Community College and the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic.

The two countries have had diplomatic ties since August 1967.
