Jamaica Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller says she is “on a mission” to improve the country’s business competitiveness globally.

But while attracting foreign investment will remain a priority, the Prime Minister says she is pushing to increase locally-sourced investment.

JAMPRO and other government business agencies “have been charged to renew focus on local investment and to support and encourage existing investors to expand and to increase employment,” according to a government release.

“Nobody else is going to do it if we don’t lead the charge,” she said this week at the opening of the ATL Automotive Volkswagen Modular Showroom and Audi Terminal in Kingston this week, s

The push for local investment comes in part because foreign investors examine the level of local investment when deciding to take the plunge in a country, she said.
