Kirani James returned to the track exactly like he left it last summer, winning the 400m at the inaugural Chris Brown Invitational in Nassau this weekend.

James finished the 400m in 44.72 at the Thomas A Robinson national stadium.

He finished in 43.94 seconds at the London Olympic Games, a personal best that brought home the first-ever gold medal for Grenada.

It was the first time Brown, who won three Olympic medals for the Bahamas, had held the tournament.

James’ previous meet was a Lausanne Diamond League meet in August. He took off the remainder of last season to pursue his academic studies at the University of Alabama.

James was named Caribbean Journal’s co-sportsman of the year in 2012, along with Jamaica’s Usain Bolt.
