First Southwest Airlines Flight Arrives in Puerto Rico

The first Southwest Airlines flight to Puerto Rico arrived at San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport on Sunday morning.

The flight out of Orlando arrived in San Juan at 10:40 AM, met by a delegation including Puerto Rico Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla.

Southwest will be offering three daily nonstop flights between Orlando and Sn Juan and one between Tampa Bay and San Juan.

Southwest’s AirTran will carry the service between Fort Lauderdale and San Juan.

The flights had previously been operated by AirTran.

The Dallas-based carrier first announced the service in late 2012. Sunday’s flight was one of five the company launched to cities across the continental United States.
