Bahamas Leads Caribbean Development Pipeline With 2,526 Rooms

The Caribbean/Mexico hotel development pipeline is currently comprised of 124 hotels and 20,444 rooms, according to February data from hotel analytics firm STR.

The region’s total active pipeline includes hotel projects in the in construction, final planning and planning stages. It does not include hotel projects in the pre-planning stage.

The Bahamas leads the Caribbean’s countries with 2,526 rooms — a significant chunk of that comes from the under-construction Baha Mar resort property.

The Dominican Republic has 2,475 rooms at some stage of development, while Jamaica has 1,278 and Turk s and Caicos has 747 rooms in the pipeline.

Mexico currently has 10,131 rooms in development, according to the data.
