Grenada’s government says it will be putting an emphasis on growing the country’s small business sector.

The government has reportedly set aside “a sum of money targeting SMEs,” according to Oliver Joseph, Minister for Economic Development, Trade, Planning and Cooperatives.

The funding will play a part in compensating for a lack of funding generally available for small and medium-sized enterprises, he said.

Joseph was speaking at the island’s new Business Support Centre.

“We want to see more businesses come on stream and be successful, so together we can grow the Economy,” Joseph said. “This centre will go a long way in ensuring that businesses perform, create jobs and remain in operation.”

Government “cannot provide all of the jobs, but will work with the private sector and individuals to provide incentives and create employment,” he said.
