Haiti is mourning the loss of historian Georges Corvington, considered one of the country’s greatest historians.
Corvington, who was best known for his work on the history of Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince. died Wednesday.
In a statement, Haiti President Michel Martelly said Haiti had “lost a treasure of inestimable value with the departure of Georges.”
Corvington was named a Living National Treasure by the country in 2009.
His “Port-au-Prince: Over the Course of Years,” examined the history of the capital in seven volumes.
Martelly said he and the Haitian people were “very grateful for the tremendous work done by Georges Corvingon in the history of our country.”
