Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla met Thursday in Havana with Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, the Foreign Minister of Fiji.

The two sides discussed ways to increase bilateral ties between the two Small Island Developing States.

“We share common challenges and positions on numerous issues of the international agenda, such as those related to preserving the environment and the difficulties caused by climate change,” Rodriguez Parrilla said in a statement.

Kubuabola said Fiji would “continue to support Cuba” at international fora, expressing interest in working with the Cuban government in the Group of 77, a UN caucus of developing states.

Fiji’s foreign minister was concluding a three-day official visit to Havana.

Cuba and Fiji established diplomatic relations in 2002.
