Haiti President Michel Martelly continued his Guyana trip with a working meeting with CARICOM Secretary General Irwin LaRocque.

The “very productive” meeting focused on regional challenges, particularly regional security and Martelly’s proposal for a CARICOM-United States joint summit.

Following an agreement between the two sides, a technical team from the CARICOM Secretariat will visit Haiti to assess progress in the implementation of different components of the CARICOM Single Market.

Soon after, another team from CARICOM, led by LaRocque, will visit Haiti to meet with Haitian government officials and members of civil society to inform them on the “activities and operations” of CARICOM.

Also on the trip, Haiti Foreign Minister Pierre Richard Casimir signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Guyana Foreign Minister Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett on the transfer of agricultural tracking technology.
