Stephen Turnbull has been nominated as the new Chief Financial Officer of the Turks and Caicos Islands, the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development announced Monday.

Turnbull has been named CFO for an interim period beginning May 4, when he will succeed current CFO Hugh McGarel-Groves.

Turnbull will be traveling to the territory this week to begin the handover and to “assist the Ministry of Finance with its budget and fiscal planning,” according to a statement from the Governor’s office.

He has previously served as a public finance advisor in the Turks and Caicos, as part of a more than 20-year career as a qualified accountant.

He will remain CFO until the end of August.

The DFID said it was in the process of recruiting a permanent CFO to take over “in due course.”
