Cuban Pitcher Yadier Pedroso Dies in Traffic Accident

Cuban pitcher Yadier Pedroso Gonzalez, who pitched for his country in the World Baseball Classic in Tokyo last week, was killed this weekend in a traffic accident in Cuba, according to Joan Molina, director of sports for the territory of Artemisa.

The accident, which also killed two others, occurred in Manga Central on the road leading to Artemisa.

The car in which Gonzalez collided a freight truck at about 10:30 on Saturday night, according to Cuba’s government information agency. It did not disclose who was driving.

Pedroso, considered one of the top pitchers in Cuba, also pitched for Cuba in the inaugural 2006 World Baseball Classic.

A native of Havana, he pitched in 10 international competitions for Cuba.
