Guyana will receive a $5 million grant from the Inter-American Development Bank to support the country’s low-carbon development path.

The programme will help create incentives for investment in Guyana’s low-carbon sectors.

The first portion of the programme will help provide credit for small and micro-enterprises in the low-carbon sector, and the second will help boost employment in those businesses in the low-carbon sector.

The grant funding is being financed with resources from the Guyana REDD+ Investment Trust Fund, and will be executed from 2013 to 2015 by Guyana’s Small Business Bureau, in coordination with Norway, the IDB and the World Bank’s International Development Association.

The programme aims to create or sustain 2,200 jobs in the low-carbon sectors of Guyana during its three-year life.
