New Grenada Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell met this week with officials from the German Agency for International Cooperation to discuss climate change projects in the country.

A major topic of conversation was the planned Programme on Integrated Adaptation Stategies, which is a bilateral programme that will be funded by the GIZ and the United Nations Development Programme.

The four-year programme has a value of $6.5 million USD.

It seeks to “increase resilience of vulnerable communities and ecosystems to climate change risks in Greanda through integrated adaptation approaches.”

Mitchell said Grenada had been a “committed development partner” to Grenada over the years.

“As a result of that support, Grenada became a front runner of climate change issues in the region and demonstrated leadership especially in the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan,” he said.
Mitchell said he also hoped Grenada would become a more significant source market for Grenada’s tourism sector.
The adaptation programme will officially launch in April 2013.
