The US Virgin Islands is moving into the next phase of construction on its broadband internet development plan, according to Lawrence Kupfer, president of the Virgin Islands Next Generation Network.

Crews have begun placing underground conduits and pulling fibre optic cables through them in both St Thomas and St Croix.

The crews will soon be installing fibre optic lines across utility poles in the territory.

The plan seeks to install a high-speed infrastructure across the Virgin Islands.

The viNGN first awarded construction contracts on the project in the fall of 2012.

It is being partially funded by the US Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunication and Information Administration.
