Haiti Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe met Friday with a delegation led by Jesus Gracia Aldaz, Spain’s Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Latin America.

The meeting at Lamothe’s private residence covered cooperation between Haiti and Spain, including potential areas of enhanced cooperation.

“I welcome Spanish cooperation with Haiti, which continues despite the financial crisis in Spain,” he said.

Spain has been providing support for Haiti’s National Directorate of Water Supply and Sanitation (DINEPA) to help ensure access to clean drinking water in Haiti.

In September 2012, Haiti opened a new drinking water supply and distribution system in Verrettes that received $300,000 in funding from the Spanish government.

Aldaz is also meeting with Haiti President Michel Martelly on his visit to the country.
