European Union Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Mikael Barfod will visit Montserrat on Tuesday to be part of budget discussions with the UK’s Department for International Development.

In May of last year, Montserrat Premier Reuben Meade signed an agreement to receive a total of $21.09 million USD in European Development Funds over a three-year period through 2013.

The EU has contributed grant funding of around $32.6 million to Montserrat over the last decade.

That funding has supported programmes including the Montserrat Resettlement Programme, funding for tourism and the establishment of the Montserrat Community College.

Barfod’s visit will include talks on the implementation of Montserrat’s Sustainable Development Plan and the Little Bay Port project, which it is co-financing.
