New Nevis Premier Vance Amory, whose Concerned Citizens Movement ousted the ruling Nevis Reformation Party in Tuesday’s elections, vowed to form a government of “inclusion” in his first public comments since the vote.
““I think we ought to be a Party and an Administration of inclusion and we also need to be cooperative and collaborative wherever it is necessary for the good of the country,” he said. ”
Amory previously served as Premier from 1992 to 2006. He was sworn in as Premier Wednesday at the High Court in Charlestown.
“We will always reach out. If there are issues on which we can have common ground, I think it is important that we discuss those issues across the waters with the Federal Government,” he said. “We have had our issues with them. I think they were justified and I think we have articulated our position very carefully and clearly and decisively.”
He said Nevis’ new government would seek to work with St Kitts Premier Dr Denzil Douglas and the Labour government.
Speaking at a briefing this week, Amory said his government’s major priorities would be jump-starting the economy and uniting the Nevisian community.
“There are a number of things not in any specific order but clearly we have to get the economy up and running again, so that people can have jobs and that the business sector can find some comfort in doing business, expanding their business, ensuring that they are profitable,” he said. “That’s going to be a challenge but I think it can be done.”
