Nevis has elected a new Premier, with Vance Amory replacing former Premier Joseph Parry, according to the results from Tuesday’s vote.

Amory, leader of the Concerned Citizens Movement, succeeds the Nevis Reformation Party’s Parry as the island’s top official. He previously served as Premier from 1992 to 2006.

“God has intervened!” the CCM wrote in a post on its Web site following the results.

The CCM won three of the five seats in the Nevis Island Assembly. The CCM’s Mark Brantley and Alexis Jeffers also won seats.

In a posting on Facebook, Shawn Richards, the leader of the Opposition People’s Action Movement in St Kitts, extended his congratulations to the CCM and Amory, calling the victory a “strong mandate.”

Parry did retain his seat, along with Robelto Hector of the NRP.

The Nevis Island Assembly meets in the onetime home of Alexander Hamilton, the first US Treasury Secretary.
