Nicaragua’s Denis Moncada assumed the Chair of the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States.

Ronaldo, Nicaragua’s Permanent Representative to the OAS, said his three-month term would focus on strengthening the Inter-American Human Rights System, among other priorities.

Moncada succeeds outgoing Chair Joel Antonio Hernandez Garcia.

“We are sure this will be a successful presidency,” Hernandez said.

The Vice Chair of the Council will be held by Barbados Ambassador John Beale.
