Haiti will mark the three-year anniversary of the Jan. 12, 2010 earthquake that killed almost 320,000 people and forever changed the country.

Saturday is an official day of reflection dedicated to the memory of the victims, according to a statement from Haiti’s National Palace.

While the day is not a public holiday or a non-working day, Haiti’s national flag will be flown at half mast, and nightclub and similar establishments will remain closed.

Haiti’s Office of the President said it invited television and radio firms to scheduled programmes for the occasion.

On Friday, President Michel Martelly visited a “renewal” memorial erected in the Port-au-Prince area of Carrefour-Feuilles with a number of other government officials.
